Where did the idea of the Karma Exchange come from?

One beautiful spring day, I was at the mall with my wife and two young daughters. At the mall was a booth with people volunteering with the local Art's council. We decided to stop and make a couple of paper lanters with the girls. After an hour or so of gluing coloured paper to balloons, we were finally ready to continue with our day. On the way out, my wife saw some little pieces of paper that were attached to bent paper clips. The paper had two simple words written on them, "I Wish...". My wife turned to me and said something like "Wouldn't it be really neat if there was a website where you could just post your wish."

There are a number of cultures that believe that if you expect your wish to come true, you have to send it out into the world. After all, how else do you expect the great cosmic forces to help your wish come true if they don't even know about it. Anyway, I thought to myself, wouldn't it be even better if there was a website where people could put their good intentions to practice. In today's complex World, doing simple things to make the world a better place, like saying hello to a stranger, or telling someone you care about them, or giving up your seat on a bus is like dropping a pebble in the ocean, it's effect ripples outward.

I have always believed that your life is what you make it and that you are in control of your destiny. I also believe that good things happen to good people for a reason. Simply speaking, if you want good things to happen, you have to make good things happen. Consider doing something good today... and make a difference.
